What key advantages does Video VBOX have?

Video VBOX has a number of key advantages over the competition:

Cost
Video VBOX Lite is one of the lowest costing Video Data Loggers on the market, but with Racelogic's quality and renowned customer service!

One-box solution
Video VBOX contains the multi-cameras video recorder, VBOX GPS data-logger and the real-time graphics overlay, all in one small, reliable package. No other system on the market currently achieves all of these goals.

Video format
The videos recorded by Video VBOX are in a standard .avi format, meaning that they can be played in Windows Media Player (some PC's may require the free xvid codec), VLC player, or any other standard media player. They can also be uplaoded directly to YouTube without any kind of conversion. In a corporate environment, it means that you can hand them out to anyone, who will be able to play them without any trouble. This is an important question to look out for if you are buying such equipment.

Real-time graphics
The Video VBOX renders the high resolution graphics in real time using a dedicated graphics processor, meaning no time consuming secondary conversion process is required to generate the graphics in post processing. Watch out for systems which can't do this in real time, so require special playback software to generate the graphics, which makes it difficult to share the graphically enhanced video with your friends or on YouTube.

Video quality
Many features have been built into the Video VBOX during the design to enhance the quality of the cameras, video and graphics. MPEG-4 compression was used to gain the best balance between quality and bandwidth and uses about half the storage space as MPEG-2 for the same quality. Take a close look at any full resolution output from all systems before deciding on which to buy, we are considered to have the best quality by people who have tested all of the available systems. This is the reason why the Video VBOX is used in many high profile applications such as the BMW, Porsche and Audi driver training centres, all of whom have separately evaluated and chosen what they consider to be the best system in the market.

Camera resolution
We spent a long time researching and then defining the specification for our own bullet cameras. They are not standard off the shelf items and have gone through a process of optimisation and rigorous testing to ensure they produce the best possible picture in the highest possible resolution. Ours use the Sony HQ1 chipset, with 550/580 lines of resolution. For example, see the resolution test below taken using a competitor's '550' line bullet camera. Where the camera inside may be 550 line, the supporting filters and electronics reduce it down considerably which is what we have worked very hard to optimise as we feel picture quality is vitally important. Note also that the Racelogic Bullet camera is 720x576 pixels, and the other is only 708x480 pixels, nearly 20% less.

Graphics Quality
Video VBOX uses full 24 bit colour graphics with per-pixel alpha-blending (transparency). By using a dedicated graphics processor, you can have multiple, realistic looking gauges, needles, bar graphs and text, all updated 25 times a second, and there's plenty of power left for many more graphical functions. You are free to use any font in any size you like for the elements in the scene. Competitive systems are limited to using a simple straight line as a needle, and one simple font. Try comparing the quality of graphics, and we think you'll agree that Video VBOX produces is one of the best.

10Hz GPS engine
The GPS engine inside the Video VBOX gives a true position, velocity and acceleration update 10 times a second, giving a smooth movement to the speedometer and track-maps. Most other systems use a slower, 4Hz or 5Hz update rate, resulting in slower graphics and crucially, a reduced lap-timing accuracy. Other systems make up this deficit by using accelerometers, but this means you have to mount the box in certain orientations, and will suffer from roll, pitch and incline induced errors. Also, the accelerometers are only used to produce velocity, and the position is still at the lower rate, which means you don't get very high resolution track maps either, below is an example of the kind of detail you can expect from a Video VBOX with a true 10Hz GPS engine:

Built in battery tank circuit
There is nothing more frustrating than losing important video due to poor connections or voltage fluctuations in the car. A totally unique feature fitted to every Video VBOX Pro and Video VBOX Lite, is a small internal battery which provides backup power for 15 seconds after the power input voltage has dropped below a safe threshold. If this situation persists, then the Video VBOX automatically closes the current video file to prevent any loss of data due to file or card corruption. This is vitally important should you ever need to start the engine whilst it is recording, as the battery voltage will always drop below a safe threshold. The Video VBOX keeps working throughout this period, and you don't lose video or corrupt files. It also works when you are using an external battery pack, when the battery pack has run out, the tank circuit kicks in and saves your file. If you stall or spin out on the circuit, your video remains intact. It is very common for someone to pull into the pits after some laps, and switch the engine off without thinking, which kills the power to the cigarette lighter in some cars.

We know of no other Video Data logger which can retain your video file even if the power is suddenly switched off during the recording. Some claim to have such circuits, but all it means is that they don't corrupt the card, but the video is still lost.

Accuracy
We are very lucky as we can utilise our range of sophisticated GPS simulators, which allow us to optimise and improve the position and velocity accuracy measurements in great detail. Every Video VBOX coming off the production line is also tested and calibrated on such a device, which is a great advantage over all other Video Logger manufacturers. If you want to rely on the speed measured by your data-logger, then only VBOXs can give you that confidence.

Free scenes
We have a large, free library of professionally designed, good looking, graphical layouts, making your life much easier!

CAN database
All Video VBOX units come with a free CAN database which, if available on your vehicle, allows you to capture RPM, Throttle Angle, Brake pressure or Wheel-speeds directly from the CAN bus. Most modern cars have this facility. Video VBOX Lite has one selectable CAN channel, Video VBOX Pro has 16 channels.

USB functionality
The Video VBOX Pro can use standard USB memory sticks for storing video, making them perfect for corporate events.

Customisation software
Creating your own scene could not be easier using our intuitive WYSIWYG software, a great piece of software, that is very powerful, yet simple and intuitive to use.

Build quality
Racelogic are an ISO 9001 qualified company, and we have been supplying calibrated GPS test equipment to almost every single motor manufacturer, tyre company and car magazine for the last 7 years. The Video VBOX and Video VBOX Lite are made to the same exacting standards, and tested using a sophisticated GPS simulator.

Service and support
We have a team of 5 qualified technicians in the customer support department, and a number of trained dealers throughout the world. If a customer is un-happy, we are un-happy, it is as simple as that. If our customer service is not the best you have experienced, we very much want to know about it!
