Racing the ghost car
Does predictive lap timing really help improve your driving? Track Driver Magazine put it to the test at the Britcar-24
“I’m hooked” isn’t something you’d expect to hear from a life-long motorsport fanatic with instant access to the latest analysis systems, but that is exactly how Jim Cameron from Track Driver Magazine summed up his experience of using our Predictive Lap Timer.
Putting our award winning system to the test in their MX-5 at Silverstone’s Britcar-24, Jim and his team were amazed at its ‘ruthless accuracy’ - coming to rely on the device to instantly evaluate different racing lines and techniques to help shave off fractions of a second and maintain consistency during the endurance race.
Describing how the system works Jim said: “Predictive timing uses the very accurate GPS data from the Video VBOX data logger to display live timing information. It shows the exact difference between what you are doing right now, and how you did at the same point during your best lap.”
“For those who have played computer games, this is like having the ‘ghost car’ out there on the circuit, showing up your limitations in real life,” he added.
